Historical Resources in the Hudson River Valley in American Revolution
As the center of the colonies at the time of the American Revolution, the Hudson
River also occupied the center of the struggle. Both sides realized the
strategic importance of the “North River,” and have left us numerous
letters,
maps, and
other documents
that attest to this fact.
Historical Documents from the American Revolution is a collection of these primary
documents for use by everyone; browsers, enthusiasts, and researchers, as well
as for teachers to use in the classroom. Whenever possible, we have included
plain text transcriptions to accompany images of original documents.
Many of the documents provided are from regional collections and archives in
the Hudson River Valley, and may be seen here for the first time on-line.
We have included organizational and contact information wherever this is the
case, and encourage you to visit these Sites and Societies to find out more
about what they have to offer as research resources and tourist destinations.
