This Months’s Featured Historic Site
|
In January 1662, Pieter Bronck entered into a contract to purchase
from the Katskill Indians a tract of land known by the Indian
name "Koixhackung". Choosing a site at the base of the
Kalkberg Ridge, Pieter built his dwelling, a small single room
structure with cellar and storage garret. The original massive
beams, wide floorboards, cellar hatchway, and early Dutch door
still dominate the interior. This house is the oldest surviving
dwelling in Upstate New York.

City
of Troy
|
Troy is a city that grew by being in the right place at the right
time. Located at the head of navigation on the Hudson River, the
city took full advantage of its position at the crossroads of major
transportation routes. The Troy Arts District has become the focus
of an ambitious project that aims to draw creative enterpreneurs
to historic Troy, NY. The Troy Arts District encompasses a beautiful,
walkable downtown on the riverfront with many magnificent and architecturally
historic buildings. |
