Dr. H. Daniel Peck, the John Guy Vassar, Jr., Professor Emeritus of English at Vassar College, specializes in nineteenth-century American literature. His talk will focus on his most recent book, Thomas Cole’s Refrain: The Paintings of Catskill Creek, produced in association with an exhibit he curated at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site, which will remain open through November 3, 2019. Peck has written extensively on Henry David Thoreau and James Fenimore Cooper, including Thoreau’s Morning Work and The Pastoral Moment in Cooper’s Fiction.

The Handel-Krom Lecture Series in Hudson River Valley History was established through the generosity of community leaders Shirley and Bernard Handel and Lieutenant Colonel Gilbert A. Krom, US Army, Retired to promote knowledge and appreciation for the rich history of this unique and important region of America.
