Philip Dray is the author of A Lynching at Port Jervis: Race and Reckoning in the Gilded Age (2022) and a Pulitzer Prize Finalist for At the Hands of Persons Unknown: The Lynching of Black America (2002). He teaches Journalism at the Eugene Lang College in New York City, has contributed to The New York Times, and has appeared extensively on radio and TV. His lecture will focus on Black life in the Hudson River Valley through the lens of the 1892 lynching of Robert Lewis in Port Jervis, NY.
