Historical Description:

The Albany Institute of History & Art is home to one of the most astonishing collections of the region’s history. It houses over 20,000 objects, most of which have national significance. The items contained in the institute convey the rich history that existed in Albany during the 18th and 19th centuries. The monumental significance that Albany played in interstate commerce, trade, and as a hub for the brightest of America’s artists and craftsmen has forged a rich history, one well worth preserving.

 

The Site:

The Albany Institute of History & Art provides the public with an opportunity to learn about the history  and culture surrounding the Hudson River Valley from the 17th century to the present. The Institute’s collection is world renowned for holding over 20,000 items that were built, designed or used by residents of the Albany area or New York State. These items include Hudson River School paintings, decorative arts, historic objects and rare documents. In addition, the Institute hosts special exhibitions.
