The home of Eleanor Roosevelt was originally built as a factory for Val-Kill Industries. Eleanor made this building a home in 1937. Eleanor retired to the modest home at Val-Kill close to the Hudson River after her husband, President Franklin D. Roosevelt died.
The grounds of Val-Kill boast flower gardens, fields, trails and a pond. The site offers a guided tour of the fully furnished cottage. Some tours have a special theme such as Eleanor’s political activities domestically and abroad as well as focusing on her personal life.
