Historical Description:
On December 10th, 1880 the Katonah Village Library opened to the public with four-hundred books donated by the Katonah Village Improvement Association. Twice in the 1890s the Village of Katonah was uprooted and moved due to New York City’s demand for water. The buildings of the village were located on land that was submerged for the new reservoirs. The planners of the new Katonah Library reserved a corner lot for the library and in the 1920s construction began. The library received a significant addition during the 1960s. The Katonah Historical Museum opened in 1984. The museum contains information and displays explaining Katonah’s historical move in the 1890s.
The Site:
Both the Katonah Library and Historical Museum are located in the same building at 26 Bedford Road in Katonah, New York. The building also contains a small art gallery in one room upstairs from the library. The Museum displays items of historical interest to Katonah’s unique history.

1. Take the I-87/ I-287E exit, Exit 14-1 toward New York City. 2. Merge onto New York State Thruway South/ I-87S via exit on left toward Tappan Zee Bridge. 3. Take Exit 8A toward Saw Mill Parkway North/Rt.-119/Elmsford. 4. Keep left at fork in ramp. 5. Merge onto Saw Mill Parkway/Saw Mill River Parkway North. 6. Take Exit 42 toward Harris Rd./Katonah. 7. Turn left onto Railroad Ave. 8. Turn left onto Harris Ave. 9. Turn right onto NY-117 North/Bedford Rd.
From New York State Thruway South
1. Merge onto New York State Thruway South. 2. Take to the Rt.-17K exit, Exit 17, toward I-84
Newburgh/Stewart Airport. 3. Merge onto NY-300/Union Ave. toward Middletown. 4. Merge onto I-84E towards Beacon. 5. Merge onto I-684S via Exit 20S toward White Plains. 6. Take the Rt.-35 exit, Exit 6, toward Cross River/Katonah 7. Turn right onto NY-35/Cross River Rd. 8. Turn left onto Wood Bridge Rd./NY-117. Continue to follow NY-117S. 9. Make U-Turn at Valley Rd. onto Bedford Rd. /NY-117.
